Following a very successful season with only one loss, the Boy’s Varsity Volleyball team was able to beat Northside College Prep and claim the city championship on May 18.

After a slow start and a 18-25 loss in the first game, Lane was feeling the pressure from the opposing team, who reached the final after a surprise defeat over Von Steuben. However, the second game told a different story. From the very beginning, the team maintained a slight lead, which was enough to keep them alive in the match and win the second game 25-22.

The third and deciding game was the most thrilling of them all. The entire time both teams were tied until the very end when Lane was able to gain a lead. The winning shot came from senior Jacob Clohisy, which concluded the championship with a 25-21 win for Lane.

“I’ve been on this team for a few years now, and to finally be able to win city is the most rewarding feeling ever,” said Kristian Zehirev, a senior on the team. “I think this will give us the confidence to continue playing well in the state championships as well.”

The volleyball team will be taking on Holy Trinity High School in the first round of the state playoffs on May 23.
